The American secular holidays basically correspond to the European/Indigenous American seasonal festivals (Christmas = Winter Solstice, Easter = Spring Equinox, etc.), and there's no such corresponding holiday in August, unless you count Midsummer (late July, though some do it in early August).
So, Midsummer it is. Let us light the bonfires, stampede the cattle, trim the pot plants and celebrate fertility.
