Why do you start a rock band?
Because, on some level, you want to be rich and famous.
Sure, you might realistically know that you probably won't and its still fun to play out locally and jam with your friends but... at the core, you wanna be famous. That's why you start a band... if it develops into more, that's awesome.
It's just like love. It starts with you wanting to have sex with somebody and... maybe you eventually fall in love and that's awesome but... at first, you wanted to fuck.
GNR from the start... were fucked-up midwesterners who came to LA to try and get famous. I don't think they've ever disputed that.
Not like some of these punk bands "no, we're all about the message... we wouldn't sign a contract if we got offered one! We're all about THE SCENE!"
I don't buy it, it's disengenuous. It's not that punk is at all the only offender... but it seems to be the biggest one.
