Seriously, I've never heard of such a thing.
I don't do multiple exclamation points unless something is AMAZINGLY important. And even then, I usually hold myself to three. Comes of being an English major before I was an internet junkie, I assume. I figure, if you can't figure out my emotion based on what I'm actually saying, punctuation isn't going to make that big a difference one way or the other.
