: So first off, HBO.com says this is a 12 episodes series. But it also lists these 12 episodes elsewhere on the site as "Season 1." So I'm guessing that means they HOPED to make more episodes, but since it's obvious got a very high production value they had to wait to see how it does.
They want at least three or four seasons to tell the whole story, but as of yet, they haven't been picked up for Season Two. All sources say they are "very close", though, but that means it won't air til 2005 probably.
: Now on to the shows themselves.....this obviously didn't resolve anything. We don't know why Appalonia is mad at her daughter. And certainly don't know why she wants to kill both of them. We don't find out much about "Management" although its obvious he/she/it isn't just another person like Ben or Scutter. And what about Brother Justin? They have said he's a demon, but where's he going with all these speeches? It's not a very good character arc to have him start off one way and end up the exact same way: babbling about Armageddon and "his plan" but not doing anything about it. And what did happen or is going to happen to Brother Balthus (aka Norman if you didn't catch his name during the show)? To me its obvious that there has to be another season or another few episodes at least. Because this is an unfinished work. It's not that the ending sucks, its that its not finished. And I love this show so much just because of how weird it is I can't say: "the ending sucks though." I won't say shit like "this can't be the ending, it just can't" because it isn't. That wasn't an ending. That was a cliffhanger. There was no resolution to anything. It only half began to bring some perspective to Hawkins and his powers, but resolution? Certainly not.
I suggest you check out www.carnivale.org, a fan website where in the fan forum, there are sections devoted to try and answer the questions you pose. Of course, they are all really only speculations.
: Anyway. Thoughts about its quasi-ending? Anyone heard about next year? Anyone want to comment on where the characters stand now? Make any observations about things earlier in the season? or about the characters themselves? Just wondering what other fans think...
I loved the ending. I will hate HBO if it doesn't get picked up. I also can't wait to go back and watch it again with my VHS tapes ... and again when the DVD set comes out.
