Great post... although I never meant to imply that movie-making is easy, if that's what you're saying.
: Seriously, it's all a matter of opinion. I'm not a big LOTR fan either(or even a wee one) but I would never attempt to link these two in any way. They are two radically different filmmakers. Linking Tim Burton and Peter Jackson might be a more viable option seeing as how they both seem to work in the fantasy genre. But Kevin and Peter? Apples and...well, you know....
: I also don't think it's fair to talk about moviemaking as though it were some sort of recipe you gleen from a book. "And one part action, two parts romance/simulated sex scene. Stir in a neato plot twist and viola!"
: But okay, let's play fantasy filmmaking. For my money, the only one I could link with Kevin would be Quentin. While that sounds crazy, the reason I say this is because they both put their own indelible stamp on whatever they do. You KNOW that your watching a Kevin Smith or a Quentin Tarantino film pretty much 30 seconds into any of their films. Going into Kill Bill, I was never a martial arts movie fan. Yet, I still think that is easily one of the most beautiful pieces of filmmaking this year. Another reason is dialogue. They both have a great knack for a unique turn of phrase and for what it's worth, I've ALWAYS been attracted to that.
: bleh.....
