: Kevin teaches a great lesson in economics but...

: Let's not forget the TWO, i'll say it again, TWO editions of DOGMA!!! Nothing pisses
: me off more than that. Waiting 10 years to do a new CLERKS special edition is
: cool but trying to rip us off by releasing two different editions of DOGMA is just
: taking advantage of us.

And this is my fault how, exactly?

Lesson number two for today: I make the movies, I don't own them. Col/Tristar owns the
video distribution rights to "Dogma". THEY (not me) decided to put out two editions. I
asked them to wait to release the flick on DVD until the Special Edition was complete, but
they wanted to release a standard edition (with just the movie on it) day-and-date with the
VHS release.

I was actually kinda vocal about this when the DVD came out, and joked about them raping
the consumer - something the folks at Col/Tristar wasn't happy about (and for which I got
chastised).

I love that some folks think I have absolute say over every aspect of the flicks, from
conception straight through to the horrible network cuts our stuff. But I don't. This is a
business in which millions are invested, and people want to make money off said
investment. That means, from time to time, I have zero control over certain aspects of
distribution, both theatrical and home video. Sure, I can dictate what the box art looks like
(although not in the case of the "Mallrats" video), and I can fight to put a bunch of cool
extras on a DVD. But short of that, it's in the hands of those who fork over the cash in the
first place.
