If one were an atheist, why would they be stealing bibles in the first place? I mean, I hate country music, so I don’t even go down that aisle at Best Buy. Furthermore, I would hope that anyone who consciously decides to be an atheist would, at the very least, have SOME understanding of religion on which to base that decision. Therefore, reading the bible and/or some other religious scripture would have happened at some point in the past, effectively making theft unnecessary.
Granted, you specifically stated that said bible would be something "never read or heard... before" in your hypothetical situation; yet I see that fact as impossible, in order for one to have firm preexisting atheist convictions.
I see fundamental flaws in your original question, and you should consider revising.
