: Yes, have you ever been a fanboy of someone and after meeting them, you wondered why
you ever bothered with them?

Kinda.

: Who would that be?

Hal Hartley. I was just relating the story of asking for his autograph to Mewes this evening.
It's the only autograph I've ever sought, and once I got it, I couldn't figure out why I wanted
it in the first place.

: Could you tell us what happened to make you feel that way?

Nothing bad, really. He was a bit aloof, but whatever. I wasn't bummed out by him
personally (though I did figure out in that moment how NOT to give an autograph), but once
he'd signed my "Trust" laser disc, I was like "Why the fuck did I want this in the first place?"

Really, I think it came down to this: I wanted him to know I was a fan. And not that I, Kevin
Smith, was a fan so much as I, random film lover, really appreciated his work. When all was
said and done, I didn't need to ask for his autograph to communicate that. I should have
simply told him "I'm a fan," and let it go at that.

: Mine was Harrison Ford...said he got paid for his autograph. My buddy said, "What, do you
want us to suck your dick?"

Did he answer "Yes...", withdraw his Indiana Bone from his trousers and feed it to you and
your friend? Because THAT would be a great story.

: Thanks for all the genius work that you have done.

Thanks for giving a shit. But listen - I get paid to accept compliments around here.

: I am a true fanboy for life!

Then pucker up as I withdraw my Silent Bob from my trousers, and allow me to feed it to
you and your friend. Here's a second shot at a great story.
