Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) wrote his books at first to prove that anyone could write a children's book. He didn't even like kids, to my understanding.

Incidentally, though, I was highly disappointed in The Grinch, and therefore have no desire to see the Cat in the Hat. I'm just crossing my figures at this point that they don't try to adapt Green Eggs and Ham for the big screen.
