I think you'll find that Kevin smoked weed for two weeks solid when he was younger, then stopped when some chick told him he wasn't funny (bar maybe the odd toke here and there). I think you'll also find that Kevin not only wrote and directed Clerks, but he financed it himself as well. Mewes acted in it. With due respect to Jason, I think Kevin's the one that "pulled it off".

Kevin got together a few friends who knew the basics, maxed out his credit cards and made Clerks for twenty seven grand or thereabouts. He showed it at Sundance, someone with connections saw and liked it and the rest is history.

Assuming you have access to a computer and printer, you don't need collateral to write a script - you just need time, inclination and talent (hopefully).

Start at the beginning. Sit down and start working out some ideas. Failing that, start writing anything and see if that takes you anywhere.
