I've come to realise that I, Pilky, have missed the bus.
Sometimes inlife, you come to the realisation that you are too young for something, yet too old for others.
Like when I was a young boy. Around 11 years old or so. I came to the realisation that I was too old for G.I.Joe action figures and transformers, yet, still too young for girls. I found myself in dispair. You see, my mother, unbeknownst to me, as I was away at camp, decided that I was right when I said "ma, these toys all suck now" so she threw em all out. Every last one of them. Gone!
This forced me to move on.
Now, you may be asking yourself, what the fuck is the fat kid talking about now, and surely you would be right to do so.
I am talking about my fandom of Kevin Smith.
Today, just a few minutes ago, while reading Kevin's post about Vulgarathon, I understood, that I am not able to celebrate my love for all that is SZmith.mosier/Mewes/and company. I am forever doomed, stuck in the middle.
I missed the first wave. That wave of fans that call themszelves originals or old timers, or whatever fanciful title they deem important enough to bestowe upon themselves in a desperate attempt to cling to the notion that their fandom is any more or less important than anyone else's.
I came along to the webboard, and the full understanding of View Askew just a little too late.
You see, I liked Kevin's work, heck for a time if some one asked me, who's your favourite writer/director, my reflex answer was Kevin Smith.
I knew nothing of the Stash, or the webboard, or ming, or Ben Affleck's predilictiuon towards luscious young hookers.
One day, I came upon this site. And I have been floating around here ever since, secure in the knowledge that I can be funny, and amuse you, sort of like joe pesci in a clown outfit.
Then I ran into the new Kevin Smith set. The Jay and Silent Bob clones. You know the one's I mean. Those damn "SNOOGAN LIKE A MOTHER FUCKER" people. The kids who don't realise that there is more to a View Askew flick than Jay talkin about cock.
So you see, I am saddened because, well, I am too new to be an oldbe, and too old to be a newbe.
Alas, I am forever left behind, stuck in the middle. I have no stories of.... So I was there in 98 when Kevin was like, he dude, welcome, and conversely, I have no stories of, me and the guys were like soo fucked up and we snuck into Jay and Silent bob.
But do not cry for me webaskewers, I am not lost, just wthout identity as a fan.
