i wouldn't recommend doing kevin smith (har har har, get it, it's a pun). reason being it would be hard to argue he is an auteur. he's incredible at what he does, but he hasn't changed anything.

i mean, he brings back the same actors in different roles: not new.
he has sharp, witty dialogue: not new.

i love the guy, but he's not an auteur.

i would think it would be easier to write on someone like jean-luc godard, howard hawks, jean renoir, sergei eisenstein (sp?), dw griffith, or my vote for "king of all auteurs", john ford.

it's easier to write on the older stuff because the stuff has context, there's more difference, and the ideology is embedded in the film more. or, at least, it's more obvious.

i mean, if you want to do kevin, go for it, just saying that it may be harder.

: Hey......From sunny England............I am nearly 18 and currently sitting my second year at college, in Film.....and this year ....50% of our final grade is on an assingment we have to write on an 'auteur' of our choice...Whilst everyone has chosen people like Wes Craven, Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hittchcock, Tim Burton. and how they all change the evolvement of film in the last 50 years..etc etc....I have chosen the king of all AUTEURS....MR SMITH!....The thing is I just wanted to make sure I get everything right, because getting in to University next year all really depends on me getting over a B in this course.....I am trying to find out what his biggest influences in film were, and how these can be seen in his movies (like particualr conventions and shit)...if anyone can help me.....it will be sooooo very much appreciated!!!!!!! Love Vikki.......xxxx..you can contact me on either parryiam@yahoo.com or vikki_luvs_soco@yahoo.co.uk
