: Then does it slow down, or do you gain it all back if you come off the diet?

If you go off of the diet onto the way you used to eat, then you do gain some weight. Depending on how much you lost, you shouldn't gain all of it back unless you start eating like crap.

The main thing you have to remember is that carbohydrates are complex sugars which the body needs exercise mainly to break down. If they are not broken down that way, the carbs turn to body fat.

So when you do the Atkins diet, your body finds it harder to break down these complex sugars. And when you start with normal carb consumption after that diet, you have to work extra harder to get your body back into its previous carbo-burning state.

I'd only suggest doing the diet for a few days to a week & then ween yourself onto a sensible diet. And if you're really not that physically active, keep the carbs to a minimum anyway.
