I love the book so much that it's hard to believe it'd be written about so as a play..err..musical. I can't imagine music to it, or the humour it mentions (although Elphie in the book is so sarcastic it does make you smirk from time to time).
In the book, Glinda just annoys you, grates on you and you want her to fail because she's that pretty little spoiled princess everyone has had to deal with in school. The fact that Elphie (the wicked witch) even puts up with her and she grows on her, is impressively written.
It's a DARK book and full of DARK things that reminded me a lot of the way Hitler reigned and had his concentration camps to rid the world of an impure race, and the way the communists militantly dictated how religion should be practiced. Yet the write up of the play makes it seem like this sing-songy Glinda fest of giggles and rainbows. Hmm.
I'll see the play, but it won't change my views on the book. It's definitley one of the greatest pieces of fiction I've ever happened across.
