Old school rap is cool and all, but it's quality can't compare to some of the talented underground acts out there today.
The appeal of old school rap is that the rhymes were less about RHYMING and more about getting a point across. It's true that most (not all) of the old school shit had a purpose, moreso than the radio hip pop we hear nowadays, anyway. The way they'd rhyme wasn't about rhyming and wordplay, it was frantic and fast paced. Kids in their basement with turntables could finally say something and have people listen to it with a smile on their face.
This was back when it was just kids who HAD something to say doing it. Nowadays kids ask for tables for Christmas and try and become new school rappers by the New Year.
