Ok so he is mentally ill. Can he be cured, let's assume that he can be cured one hundred percent. Could you live with the idea that you killed an innoccent human being? I couldn't, the state is doing him a favor. Let's say he can't be cured, no matter how secure of a facility that you hold him in, you can not guareentee that he won't escape and kill someone else. How are you going to explain to the family that a convicted man killed their loved one?
I do not believe in letting 99 scum bags go, just so one person can walk free. Also even though the criminal might not have killed that exact person, chances are he did things almost as bad. I say if the government is serious about controlling drugs, use the death penalty for any selling of drugs. If you want to stop it, then make the punishment so horrible that the criminals will think twice about doing it.
I don't support the government's policy on drugs, I say legalize everything, but if it's illegal, then make sure that it's totally illegal and no one will fuck around with it.
