For years those countries have felt what punishment really is. Hell, for drugs they get executed. My cousin was a diplomat in Saudi and walked through the twon square where every Friday at noon they held public executions, where even small children would throw handfuls of pebbles at the village "whore" who cheated on her husband.
The United States is supposed to be an advanced nation, yet we execute people within a shadow of a doubt, questionable mentally challenged people and in such ways that would be viewed as barbaric.
It's not a detrrant. Murder has happened since Cain and Able. It will always happen. Life imprisonment removes the individual from society, so why must we play God and terminate a life because we find it "just"?
