: : there was a guy named ed gein who lived in plainfield, wisconsin back in the 50's. he killed women and made costumes and furniture out of their body parts, and ate some of them. but he never used a chainsaw, and didn't have accomplices.

----It's a VERY loose adaptation of Ed Gein as was stated....So loose in fact that it was also the basis for the movie Psycho....

As for the movie itself....I was really suprised at how disturbing it was.....It's played totally straight....and real mean.

The actors did a really great job at fleshing out their charchters....as insane as that sounds......so you basically just weren't watching the systematic murdering of Victim 1 then victim 2.....etc.

It goes a much more stylish route than the original (which played more like a documentary)....And I certainly wouldn't say thats it in any way better....just different

And different enough to give it a look.....

A realization I came to watching the film was that i'm not the horror buff my 13year old Fangoria subscriber self was......

It all left me thinking why did I just spend 15 bucks and 90 minutes to watch people get tortured and killed....

What an incredibly odd genre.
