with a dangling participle. Not sure if this is the answer and sure as shit don't know what a dangling participle even looks like but it sounded like a good answer and I was bored to death anyway.

Now on a more serious note...since the sentence is speaking about ONE pair of boots, shouldn't it read "IT should be treated with a protective finish."?
