Ok so my question- Who is reading all the essay things for the contest. Do they get graded? I just marked two sets of essays and ARGHHHH. I can't even imagine what sort of stuff people write but I guess it might be more thrilling then what I HAVE to read. Maybe not-don't a lot of people sort of stop doing any mental growth at around grade ten.....explains a lot about dating and realationship difficulties...hmmm. Then again the errors alone usually make for a good laugh.
Weird how it has been one of those days-where oddly enough Kevin Smith has been a theme. There is a piece of writing that I use in a textbook written by George Carlin and the cement heads that are sometimes in my suburban classes do not know who he is-so I use the DOGMA example. Rather risky since I teach in a Catholic school-which has the more user friendly Redeemer Christ crucifxes in the classrooms.(oh and all the scary teenage girls in really really short kilts for every male fantasy-need a moment?)Usually at least three out of 20 know the film and we get to have a diveregant conversation. Those students go up on the cool scale in teacher world.MAybe that in itself is an oxymoron. So I had a good chat and then got home to catch a rerun of the evening with Kevin Smith-sort of a freeform classroom thing happening there I'd say.
