Clerks: Sellout was going to be an actual live action film. As Kev has said numerous times, Clerks: Sellout became Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. At least, parts of it, anyway. As I understand, it changed a lot. Then a lot of the ideas for it are going to be used in the animated movie. There. Its been said. Over and over and over again, but there you go.
