My boyfriend got tied up in the one where the offer to buy the Nigerian offers to buy your car for $10,000 more than it was worth. (7 thousand for shipping it to South Africa, "and keep the rest for your trouble") Smelled iffy, so he asked me to broker it through the law firm I work for.

Sure enough, when the check comes, and we try to verify it, it is a fake.

We had a tracking number for the check, a phone number for the guy who called to confirm its shipment, and the shipping agent and destination to which the car was to be shipped. Called the FBI, they didn't want anything to do with it. Apparently, you have to actually lose thousands for them to take an interest... that's unconformed though, in that they still may not care.

Much like May of 2001, when I reported an Algerian I knew who could engineer bombs and kept books about explosives in his place, was in Vegas on an expired student Visa, taking Pilot lessons, and regularly losing his marbles over things as insignificant as what someone was reading. I told immigration that he was here illegally and suspicious and they told me, "We are not really worried about this type of person. We inquired the man about his expired student visa and he says he's planning on attending the EDI institute."

Maybe there is a whole lot of sense to what they are doing over there, but it's over my head is there is.
