Unfortunately this is usually true of anything that is illegal and for sale on the black market.

No. Most medical studies have shown that cannabis is not physically addictive.

No. Although recent medical studies including one commissioned by the Office of the Drug Czar have found this to be true, these studies have by and large been suppressed and are not available to the general public.
If you have been caught with pot, get a lawyer and try to get it negotiated down to a lesser charge. Let the lawyer do their job; don't talk in court.
Also, just for future reference, never admit anything to a cop. If they find something on you, don't admit it's yours. If you're driving a car, don't roll down the window further than it takes to hand out your license and registration, and don't admit that you are the primary driver of the car. Be polite. If they ask to search your car, refuse, but say it is because you have business to attend to and don't have time. They may search you anyway, but you must always refuse. Just keep saying you can't answer any questions unless your lawyer is present.
That's about the best you can do.
