-- Book's gonna be called 'Unlimited Spider-man', and Lynch gets to write issue 1, which is fairly awesome.

From comiccon.com's THE PULSE:

This January and February Marvel Comics will be releasing two new bimonthly anthology series featuring some of their best-known characters. Unlimited Spider-Man and Unlimited X-Men are a way for Marvel to showcase not just some of their characters, but also some new comics voices. Up first for the US-M are writers Joseph Goodrich and Brian Lynch. Up first for UX-M are writers Tony Lee and J. T. Krul. Teresa Focarile is the editor of both series. She gave THE PULSE a few details about the upcoming debuts.

THE PULSE: When do the first Unlimited issues come out?

TERESA FOCARILE: The first book, Unlimited Spider-Man, will come out in January, followed by Unlimited X-Men in Feb. We are planning on alternating them; each title will have six issues next year.

THE PULSE: What’s the page count expected to be? In some of the other anthologies they were oversized 48 + offerings …

FOCARILE:Each issue will be 22 pages - two 11 page stories per book.

THE PULSE: Who are some of the first creators working on the series?

FOCARILE: Writers Joseph Goodrich and Brian Lynch will be featured in the first Spider-Man book, Tony Lee and JT Krul in the first X-Men book. Takeshi Miyazawa is the artist for Joseph Goodrich's Spider-Man story. Sean Chen is doing Brian Lynch's Spidey story. Rick Mays is doing JT Krul's Unlimited story. The Lai Bros are doing Tony Lee's story.

THE PULSE: Which characters are featured in the first X-Men volume?

FOCARILE:One story features Sage, the other features X-Men old and new!

THE PULSE: How are you selecting the talent for these anthologies? I haven't heard of any other comics work by the writers you have working on the first issues of each.

FOCARILE:These are writers who have been working in other mediums that we have recruited. For most of them, except for Tony Lee, this is the first comic work they've done (Tony has worked in UK comics). I think readers will be impressed with what they see.

THE PULSE: What are the goals with these anthologies?

FOCARILE:One, to publish stories that are accessible and interesting to all readers, current and new. Two, to showcase some of the great writing talent we are finding through our aggressive recruiting initiative.

THE PULSE: How are you editing? Are you using a hands on approach or just giving light suggestions to the creators?

FOCARILE:Usually, the writers send me ideas, and then I suggest which of those ideas to move forward with. Then they send me the script, and we go through the editing process as we would on any other book, going back and forth a bit with the writers. While we have a clear idea about the kind of tone/purpose we want these stories to have (accessibility being of foremost importance), the ideas for the specific stories come from the writers.

THE PULSE: Will these be priced under the 3.00 range? Are they in the mainstream Marvel U, Ultimates, or Epic?

FOCARILE:They are set in the Marvel U. I’m not sure about the price range.

THE PULSE: What other projects are you working on?

FOCARILE:I am currently editing the MK/FF book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Steve McNiven, and a Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus book written by another new-to-comics writer, Colin Mitchell. I have also been working on various other projects in development here.
