I would agree that most of the "the bands" are overrated, not that they necessarily suck, but they're just peforming novelty nostalgia music competently and would be better suited to some festival or bar than mass media fame. I will take exception to The Hives however, in that they've been doing it for years and years in Sweden and the album that got them "big" in the states was released in 1999 and just now got around to seeing some kind of exposure in the states. I've been a fan of theirs for a while, though just because they perform a style of music I like rather well with some amusing showmanship...I haven't given more than a few minutes listen to any of those other bands besides The White Stripes, who have also been doing it for quite a while and been making good albums for years...and have a sincerity and playfullness to them that I like a lot better than the snotty "I just turned 21 and isn't holding a beer while I play so cool? You wouldn't beleive how long it takes to get my hair this messy" bands.
: The Strokes, The Libertines, The Vines, The Hives - What have any of these bands done other than just sound like a shitty garage band? I mean, I have to give points for lack of overproduction. Luckily, all of these bands will fess up to rather hardcore recreational drug use, so eventually they'll disappear. (note that The White Stripes appear NOWHERE in this paragraph.)
: Radiohead is such an bunch of whiny bitches. Why in the hell does anyone think that inane bullshit is 'genius'?
: I TOTALLY agree that Nirvana would be forgotten had that dopehead not shot up an insane amount of heroin and let Courtney put some supersonic buckshot into his face.
: Metallica's new album...Lars, it's callled a tuning key and a putting the switch in the correct position. Try that and more people might buy your new one. Well that, and the complete alienation of your fans by helping the RIAA try to sue them.
: Garth Brooks...yes, Garth Brooks. Single handedly destroyed any shred of dignity that country musicians had. That final trace of dignity was then anally raped by Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith.
: Sorry for the rant, guys...but when you work 'in radio' (if you can call my job that)...you get this shit shoved down your throat with Billboard, record promoters, Rolling Stoner...and you can only take so much.
