Help someone! Virus problem

I got Windows XP and i've got 2 other users on my computer, and on one of them they have a virus that's called "trojan.download.swizz" (it's suppose to be adware crap) and i have Nortan AntiVirus 2003 and it's up to date... it detects the virus only on that one users name... however, it won't delete, repair or qaurantine it... it just says " could not repair file" or " access denied ". so i go to the Symantec website and it says to go into safe mode and do a full system scan.... well i do this and nothing comes up! and the activity log was empty... someone help me out here... i also think this is the reason why my internet explorer isn't working... it has some toolbar on it that i can't delete or find. please help me out!
