exactly. i feel like the luckiest bastard on the planet right now. i'm gladly making the 12 hr. drive for one hour of fun. i've never had a chance to meet anyone famous, and especially not someone that i got so much love for. well, i saw dave chappelle in an airport once, but i didn't get any closer than about 20 yards to him. he was totally insulated by his posse. but, yeah, i don't know why everyone is bitching about the one hour thing when there's going to be a big party as well.
: I'm new to the board, but not new to Askew and certainly not new to life. We're all fans of Kevin's work here; big up to Mr. Smith. It is an amazing thing that he's made himself accessible to the likes of any of us, especially on a regular basis, where he takes time out from his family, his work and his friends, to drop the occasional nugget of wisdom, humor or appreciation our way. Once again, thanks Kevin, you really DO give it back.
: What I find interesting, however, is that some of the people who post here think that it is somehow an earned right rather than a benevolent gesture. I frequently check the news here to see what's going on in the View Askewniverse. When I saw the opportunity to actually meet one of the people in this world who genuinely inspire me, I was all over it. Wow! I gave it my best shot. You can't really say a lot in 50 words and I would challenge anyone who thinks you can achieve any sort of greatness in that short of a piece, but I submitted, and I was given an invite.
: If it was up to me, it would be a weekend trip to Kevin's, where he would personally share with me the answers to my questions, provide some valuable advice with regard to representation in my field and maybe watch some vids with Jen and the Quinnster. You know, what any one of us would do with our friends and family. But check it, I was granted a one hour block with a group of people just like me where I can earn bragging rights with my friends, be in the same room with people I respect and maybe get an autograph that I can hang on the wall in my office.
: I'm a fan.
: Yes, the dates changed a few times. Yes, it'll cost some cheese with transportation and hotel expenses. And yes, originally it was for one hour. Everything I dreamed and a bag of chips? Hell no. An amazing opportunity and a gift that I'll take with me forever? Hell yes.
: I choose to think that Kevin gives us these things because he himself had his eyes glossed over when he met Prince, or worked with Mark Hamill and The Time. I like to think that he can relate to what it's like being a fan and how great it feels just to see one of your idols in a restaurant or walking out of a club, much less getting an entire hour to bullshit, feel important and shake a hand.
: And I feel damn good that I get the opportunity, at whatever expense, to be a fan, without expecting an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner.
