Wow. Talk about a dissapointment. This movie should have kicked ass in every single way, yet it really didn't. Fird the good:

the cast. fuckin everyone was a big star and they all did great pretty much. even enrique iglasis had fun in his role. anotonio was awsome, depp was deep of course and eva mendes was just super hot. (and wait to you see william dafoe as a mexican! ha!)

the look: ok, im flipping out for digital. this was easily the most beautiful looking and sounding picture I have ever seen. the color scheme was astonishing. It didn't look like a typical movie, far more beatiful. some of the digital stuff gets a bit wierd, especially when there is too much light as it floods out the picture, but a very small problem. Amazing picture.

the music: fantastic. I want to buy the album, and I'm not usually into spanish music. Some of it was over the top, but it played perfectly in the movie.

the bad stuff:

confusing as a motherfucker. If you leave for a shit break during the middle of this movie, i gurantee you you will miss at least 2 double crosses. everyone changes, everyone backstabs and you soon lose track. It becomes annoying rather than fun. I LOVED Desperado because of its simplicity. This was just the opposite.

NO FUCKIN SALMA HAYEK. dont let the trailers or print ads fool you. Hayek is in this movie for about 2 minutes. and she has no more than 3 lines. All in spanish. Hey, shes still hot and its fun to see her throw daggers at people, but if you are going for salma you will be dissapointed greatly.

little desperado!
sorta strange, but with so many extra characters, the el mirachi gets very little screen time, compared to Desperado. He is an awsome character, and should have been in it more. He gets nearly as much time as Deep and everyone else, and honestly his scenes woulnd't take up 45 minutes. He kicked some ass in it, but he was who I cared about, not the other people.

action scenes were pretty good. nothing great. Not as good as DESPERADO. very very silly. when you shoot people, they usually dont fly up in the air, but whatever. lots of violence, lots of blood, lots of gory death/torture. OK stuff all around I guess. The scenes were just, I dunno, not that fun. and they were few and far between.

Not that engaging. Sorry,b ut when people were not getting shot up, you were so lost in the story that nothing mattered and nothing was that exciting. the story puttered along and it wasn't bad really, it just lacked a sense of fun the first two movies captured. THere were some funny scenes though.

overall, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO knows its pop trash and has a small amount of fun with it. It could have been a hell of a lot better, but whatever. my aim was too high.

Would have been a hell of a lot better if some characters were removed and some plot twists excluded.
