what should I read?

I have to select a book(American or non American, it doesn't matter) that was published between 1880 -1940 to read for my modern lit class. I was thinking of Mrs. Dalloway, just because I already own the book. Any other suggestions.

I'm sorta looking for something different. maybe racy or contrivorsial. I do have a list of authors we can't use, but i'm too lazy to write em all down. So if you have any suggestions on what to read, I would appreciate it.
