I hear people (normally jokingly) say that "the Jews killed Jesus." But wasn't it the Roman government that had him executed? Or is this just a matter of semantics arguing that it was the Jews in and around Jerusalem that cried out for Pilate to order the crucifixtion? Also, does anyone happen to know the politics of Rome at the time regarding to occupied territories. I mean obviously the Jews were still Jews, what limits were there to the conquered people's freedom? Did they have any political or religious leadership that conferred with the Roman authorities in any areas (particularly Jerusalem)? Just curious from someone that's got an answer (hopefully well informed one at that).
