If you are religious, is your faith based upon your actual thoughts and/or feelings about the religion (did you research the faith, etc.), or were you just brought up a certain way and feel the need to continue on the path outlined by your family (or whatever influential party "raised" you)?

** Since birth, I suppose.. I was brought up to be Catholic. My family is 100% gung-ho Irish Catholic and expected me to be the same way. I'm not sure what it is about being able to break away and form your own opinion that seems to free you, but I was able to do it. I'm not attempting to insult anyone's beliefs so I'm sorry if you take it that way. But I think Christianity is complete and utter bullshit. The idea of God just seems ridiculous to me. I'm not saying the Bible is fake, because I'm sure there is a ton of factual stuff in the Bible. Jesus was just one persuasive guy who was able to fool a lot of other people and obviously himself that he was the son of 'God'. You can't tell me that if this had happened today he wouldn't be locked away almost instantly. I know when you're a Christian you're supposed to have faith in things you have not seen, but I just can't do it. I've had the argument thrown up "You've never seen the wind! But it exists!" True, it does exist, but I've felt the fucking wind. I've yet to have one intellectual argument posed against me to defend the existence of God. There are so many facts that prove his nonexistence it's pathetic. I honestly, in today’s society, can't believe people believe. Once again, I'm not trying to insult anyone, but the entire idea seems ludicrous to me.
