: Being new to the board, this question was probably already answered.
: Why is Jay is rehab? (btw, I'm giving Mewes the benefit of the doubt by seperating him from his character "Jay," or else I wouldn't be surprised that he is rehab)

Jason Mewes Stuck in New Jersey Until He Completes Rehab
April 2, 2003

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - Actor Jason Mewes, best known as Jay in a number of Kevin Smith films, was ordered Tuesday (April 2) to complete drug rehabilitation or face jail.

The judgment came after Mewes, 28, turned himself in after earlier failing to report for a court hearing stemming from a 1999 heroin conviction, according to reports. A warrant was issues for his arrest in December 2001.

On Tuesday, Mewes pleaded guilty to probation violation charges, failing to report to his probation officer and failing to undergo counseling. He also admitted to leaving the state without permission and lying to his probation officer.

Superior Court Judge Michael D. Farren ordered the actor, who played the pot smoking pal of Kevin Smith's Silent Bob in the films "Clerks," "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy," "Dogma" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," to begin treatment within 10 days at Discovery House, a rehabilitation center in Marlboro, New Jersey.

Mewes, who now lives in Hollywood, Calif., must complete the program before he is allowed to leave New Jersey, Farren said. If he violates his parole again, he could face up to five years in prison.
