The whole 'if someone makes fun of you, then they love you' reasoning. When you were 7 and that bigger kid used to rub your face into the dirt when you were on the playground, was that because he loved you? No, it was because he was a jerky kinda guy and he got his kicks from you being unhappy. And who can blame him? It probably was pretty funny.
