My 2 cents on this Fletch "issue"

Here's the way I look at this debacle...

It seems all of a sudden there are a lot of people claiming to be Kevin Smith's fans who are now proclaiming he is a "sell out" or "not being true" because he isn't casting someone who resembles a young Chevy Chase in this movie. Dear Lord, how can these people call themselves fans?

For 5 feature films (pardon my alliteration) Kevin hasn't let us down. Sure, there are some films that were better than others, some that concentrated on a good story and some that relied on poo poo jokes. But no one has ever really come along and said they straight out didn't like one of them, not one of his fans, anyway. We've always had faith in Kevin's vision to come through with the goods in the end, and for good reason -- because he's never let us down.

So why is he going to start now?

Look, I honestly don't care who gets cast as Fletch. I'll admit that I was a little skeptical when I read Will Smith's name as a possible candidate -- not because I'm racist but just because I don't think Kevin should be biased towards his family. (Yes, that was my attempt at a joke) But at the end of the day I have enough faith in Kevin to know that whoever he chooses, whatever he writes and whatever he fills the frame with is going to be fine by me.

Not because I'm an ass-kisser who laps up every single thing that Kevin throws our way. Not because I think he's a deity who can absolutely do no wrong. Simply because, thus far, I've enjoyed his films on various levels for what they are, and, as a fan, I have faith that there will be plenty more laughs in the future.

But that Jay rip-off in 'Freddy vs Jason'...what is the deal??!!!
