I have a close friend that I've known on and off since second grade.

For a few years around the time of his marriage to his second wife (who was also his high school sweetheart), his closest school friends were spurned for his woman-- replaced by work friends.

A few years later, politics at the office have intervened and. . .

. . . he remembers the value of his old buddies, who still love him.

That's the way it goes. But it does change later. Give 'em time.
