Speaking from personal experience, one can go a LONG time without writing, no matter how much you love doing it. I am a writer by choice, and by profession. When I was younger, I used to creatively write every chance I got, however if the ideas weren't there, I wasn't going to force it (I wasn't going to write a piece of crap, just because I felt I had to get something down on paper). Now I write for a living (not creatively, and not in a field I feel satisfies my "inner creative writer" self). I can go months and months on end without doing any leisure writing... but I at no point have considered myself to be less of a creative writer for it. It is still there and still in me, and when it wants to raise its head, and the mood strikes, I will still write.

As for Matt and Ben-look at their lives before GWH, both struggling actors- and now, full-time acting careers, relationships, hectic social lives, publicity requirements (interviews, photo shoots, etc.). Sometimes life just gets in the way, and priorities can get shuffled, it doesn't change the fact that they did write the movie, or that they could have others lurking around waiting to be written, in time (probably after their stars have faded a little), you'll see them writing again...
