Here is the official James Bond Timeline.

In October 1954 a television adaptation of Casino Royale aired. James BOnd was an American CIA agent, named Jimmy Bond and was played by Barry Nelson. It was a live tv show, which was supposed to be a pilot for a James BOnd tv series which never got picked up.

In 1962, Sean Connery plays Bond for the first time, in "Dr. No."

Connery continues playing Bond through four more films, "From Russia With Love" "Goldfinger" "Thunderball" and "You Only Live Twice."

Connery left the franchise. George Lazenby was picked up to play James Bond in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." He brought in no one tot he theaters and for a while the franchise was thought dead.

Connery returned as James Bond in the 1971 outing "Diamonds Are Forever." This was to be his next to last outing as James Bond.

In 1973 "Live and Let Die" was released, starring Roger Moore as James BOnd. Roger Moore continued as James Bond through "The Man WIth the Golden Gun" "The Spy Who Loved Me" "Moonraker" "For Your Eyes Only" and "Octopussy."

Connery rteturned as Orion Pictures made a rival James Bond picture the same year. "Never Say Never Again" was released in 1983. Kevin McClory, who was producer and co-writer of Thunderball (1965), won a legal battle against Ian Fleming to make his own Bond movie. The settlement stipulated that it had to effectively be a remake of Thunderball.

So that's that.
