and it's a weak weak weak weak weak argument against downloading songs.

that $30 you talk about does NOT go to the band... my friend's band used to tour a lot and
were basically bought each night... as a package. they got paid the same ($4,000) no matter
how many people showed up.. The club would pay for advertising/promotion and keep
what's left of the ticket revenue (which when they played San Francisco was about $15,000
to the club and only $4,000 to them). T-shirts? they had to pay 33% of sales to the club
(presumably a "use" fee for the club's vendors license or whatever) so they had to mark up
the prices to offset that cost which in turn cost them a lot of sales.

everything about music at every level is skewed against the artist (or in favor of whomever is
in a position to make rules)... there are exceptions at the small/medium club level, but
corporate events? no way... corrupt as all fuck.

the REAL money for bands is in direct distribution via internet or mail-order or whatever.
EVERY band should have an online store where they sell their own products. CDs (which
they buy at wholesale from the label and sell at retail... or slightly below/above) and T-
shirts and stickers and anything else they can put their name on and sell... THAT is where
bands will see the most money.... and will be a nice step towards breaking the distrubution
chokehold that the majors have been milking everybody with.
