I've just come back to Australia from living in Vancouver for a year. Unless you are Mr Outdoors I would have to say, I don't think Vancouver is that great.

The bars are crap - there is no nightlife at all.

The music scene is shitty - no one in their right mind tours in Vancouver and if they do they charge a fortune for tickets.

The restaurants are bland - unless you like Sushi and if you do, I can recommend Robson Sushi (all you can eat for $15.95!).

The shopping is rubbish - they have no idea what good fashion sense is or how to achieve it. Their idea of hip clothing is Roots gear.

Vancouver in my opinion was highly overrated.

Matt, if you are going there for DVD shopping, I would recommend staying away from A&B Sound and the Virgin Megastore, hit Charlies on Granville Street (nearest cross street is Robson) and there are a couple of other 2nd hand places on Granville heading up towards Davie Street. They are cheaper and the quality is excellent, I never had a problem with a DVD I purchased in any of them!

After leaving Vancouver, I spent a couple of days in Seattle then 4 weeks in Portland, OR, which I preferred so much more than my time in Vancouver.

Oregon is stunning, absolutly God's country. In my time there I went from staying on a beach to camping in the middle of no where. Also, my other half is from there, so that made it even better.
