I think it is a good thing. What damage it does to cd sales, if any, is clearly compensated by the word of mouth advertising. Kevin martin of candlebox and several other artists are coming forward and embracing the internet and the idea of file sharing, piracy, and using it to their advantage.
as for movies...if i download a movie and like it, i'll definitely be spending money on the dvd, so they get theirs one way or the other, no big deal!
