We killed the two of them, not for lack of trying to capture them, but when that wasn't possible, we killed them.

We show the pictures to the Iraqi people, possiblly even the bodies to prominent Iraqis (LTG Sanchez did not rule this out, nor did he give the final disposition of the bodies) in order to allow the fact of their demise to spread.

The single greatest obstacle to Iraqi reconstruction is the lack of confidence of the Iraqi people in the Interm Government, in their chances for their future, in the usefullness of investing in the future, etc. If consumer confidence is such an issue in America, and we don't have the cloud of returning dictators, you can imagine what effect it might have in Iraq.

Only by removing thr threat of a reinstated Saddamist regime can we convince the Iraqi people to rebuuild their country. So long as they fear Saddam's return (or his sons) they won't cooperate, they won't rebuild, they won't take part in a government that might paint them as a target in a future Saddam regime.

Just the thoughts of someone aweful close to the issue....

: I just saw Uday and Qusay on the news. Why do they have to show the two dead Hussein kids? I realize nobody in Iraq believes they're actually dead, but so what? They'll figure it out eventually, and what is the utmost importance in their knowing of their deaths? I guess they think it will break their spirits, but it could give them more propaganda to feed the people. We killed two of their leaders, and then showed the world. I don't know if that would demotivate me more than it would renew my hatred. Any thoughts?
