: Discuss the quote!

: "A 19-year-old girl is no longer a grown-up because, let's face it, college has become what high school used to be." - Bill Maher

I thought that as a nation we decided that 18 was the age of majority because that's the age where you can be drafted. I would never call a 19 yr old a "grown-up", but they are an adult. One of the biggest debates about the Vietnam war was that the average age of a soldier during that conflict was 19, while the average age of a soldier during WWII was 24. Think about how much you grew up between the ages of 19 and 24, imagine the difference it makes in dealing with something as horrific as war.

I'm going to completely skip over the fact he only addresses women in this quote and pretend it could apply to either.
