I hope that the man enjoyed what little life (time wise) he had.
That's all any of us can do, live life to it's fullest while we can.
And it is always sad when some one dies and more so I think when they die young. But we can take heart in the fact that with such a large family, and with a circle of friends, he will be missed yet not forgotten.
