Since when is *NT* a REQUIREMENT??

I noticed that in the last board Elmo Machete (http://www.viewaskew.com/newboard/messages494/3079.html) admonished a poster for NOT putting *NT* in their subject line when they had no added text inside the post.

Sure, it can be a nice thing to do if you remember, since some people have slow connections (although when I'm home on the broadband, I could give a shit) -- but since when is it a requirement? Does it really cause that much strain on the boards each time we click-through on a post, or is Elmo just being pissy about wasting a few seconds (more) of his life on the Internet?

Just curious...
