Works good, I'd recommend it....plays vcd, svcd, jpeg, even mp3. I've tried lots of brands of cd-r and cd-rw, all have worked. I paid $100 new, still in plastic on eBay. I haven't tried any dvd-r or dvd+r in it yet. As far as the region thing, I have no idea, sorry.
