2) Gabe's just being rude as poo! Why would anyone check the Summaries for an explanation of internet shorthand? It's not like M.E. asked "So, who are these Jay and Silent Bob dudes?" Would you expect him to automatically think to check the summaries if he didn't know that "b/c" above was shorthand for "because"?
