I think there are those who have it sorted out, those who haven't and those who don't even try. It's this last group I'm worried about, because it's from there that the worst kinds of people spring. Once you've given up hope of figuring it out, you've given up the basis for a moral system, and sooner or later it'll dawn on you that morals no longer apply to you. And that's scary: humans with no morals are capable of anything. I do believe that this is a very small part of the population, and most of the ones who have given up are, unfortunately, suicides.
Most people are a good sort, and don't wish harm on others; they just don't think for themselves.
