I went to talk on Friday given by the 1998 Physiology & Medicine Nobel laureate, it was really good. The dude got it for discovery of nitric oxide as a messenger in smooth muscle (which led directly to the invention of Viagra). He also talked about the entire Nobel Prize experience which was really funny. I harbor no delusions though, I'm not good at advertising myself which is key to getting recognition of that sort. Politics is the name of the game, even in science, and even if you do wonderful work, you still gotta know people. I'd better stop before I get totally depressed.
