Holy shit.
I've never been to anything like this before in my life, and the experience terrified me. I walked through the halls and said, this is not my culture. This is not my culture.
We considered perhaps not coming back ever, just packing up all the stuff, going home, and playing Soul Calibur 2. I felt like an invading, alien element in their otherwise holy ritual. When people came by, though, to ask if we'd be there the next day, "we're leaving because your kind frightens us" seemed inappropriate. So we said that we would stay.
Arent Cons Fun.
Sakuracon is the Northwest Anime Convention formerly known as Baka Con.
I wanted very much to attend something called "Rad Con" Saturday night, where I am told a dangerous beverage known as "Toxic Waste" is prepared. I have a reputation for drinking things that are not, strictly speaking, potable.
Let me tell you what I had to do instead.
Amanda's parents live here in Wash., and she thought it might be nice to see a play. A forty dollar play. A forty dollar play about Noah's Ark. A forty dollar play about Noah's Ark where the people in the audience are animals.
When I gave the man my ticket, he gave me a picture of a hyena. "What is this?" I asked. "You're a hyena," he replied, as though that was a perfectly rational thing to say to another human being.
I don't know if I mentioned that it was a musical.
It was.
