: or black and gold (if i remember correctly). Govt' did experiments on him cause of his ability to heal (he used to be in the military). He healed from the experiments and escaped(I think)
Logan's background is officially shrouded in mystery. I believe he was originally known as Project X, a WWII soldier who underwent a series of 'enhancement' experiments (bit like Captain America - typical Marvel 'if it works, let's do it again'). His mutant powers (super rapid healing; scenting/tracking etc.) are, of course, separate from the enhancement procedure (which was how he got the claws and the adamantium laced into his skeleton). I understand that his memory was deliberately erased so that, if captured, he could give no details of his origin. The memory tampering was crude and obliterated the first thirty years or so of his life.
Not too sure as to what he was up to between 1945 and 1963 (when the X Men saga starts) - Again, I think this is deliberate vagueness on Marvel's part so that various back stories can be hinted at or even flashed back to... He was involved in the original Alpha Flight (Canadian government backed super hero team, the one that existed before the current outfit). There is also some back history with Logan and Sabretooth. (Are they from the same lab under the Alkali Lake?)
The back stories used in the X Men movies are different from those in the Marvel Universe. Logan is an 'oldie' in the team, not the newcomer prtrayed on the silver screen. He calls Xavier 'Charlie' and identifies with Storm as she seems a loner like himself.
Logan is actually quite short and there are plenty of jokes about this in the comic. In the movie - well, Hugh Jackman is 6 foot 2 and is actually taller than James Marsden, who plays Cyclops. I don't think you actually see them walking together, so this is disguised.
Hope this is of interest. No promises as to accuracy!
